Tobi Amusan, Nigeria’s great world record holder, has continued her remarkable winning streak this 2026 season by clinching gold and breaking a new record in the women’s 100 metres hurdles which happened live at the New Taipei Athletics Open in...
The Amazon who has maintained a great record of winning went past the finish line in 12.72 seconds, finishing the race ahead of Chinese Taipei’s Bo Ya Zhang, the lady who got silver in 13.17 seconds.
The 29 year old Nigerian born athlete has consistently shown over the years that she is a huge force to be reckoned with in the world of women’s hurdling internationally and globally and this new milestone further cements her list of accomplishments and legacies as a very strong contender.
Before now, Amusan had clinched her first Diamond League win of the season in Rabat, Morrocco, hitting 12.28 seconds to shatter her own meeting record of 12.25 seconds which she set last year, 2025.
That performance marked a significant turnaround in her campaign after opening the Diamond League season with podium finishes in China. She had come out third in Shanghai with 1/.41 seconds time before advancing her grit to 12.28 seconds for a runner-up finish in far away Xiamen, where she only lost to Masai Russell, a hurdling star from America. The 12.28 seconds race has become one of the fastest ever recorded across the world this year and is placed among the greatest performances of her wonderful career.
This is one lady that has stood with great tenacity against all odds to build, inspire and become what she’s known for today as a global star and throughout this entire season she gathered enormous momentum, and before the Diamond League campaign set in, she won gold in the women’s 100m hurdles which took place at the African Championships in Accra Ghana. This made Nigeria clinch her first gold medal of the competition.
She hit the global stage with her historic iconic world title and record of 12.12 seconds back at the 2022 World Championships in Oregon and ever since , Amusan has consistently remained one of the best performing athletes in women’s hurdling. Her most recent performance in New Taipei may not hit among her fastest but it shows how committed and determined she has been, her consistency and her sheer ability to record a victory anytime she’s out there.
